Questions, answered

What is a placement visit?

It is a class with our teachers at the level they think fits, followed by a short talk with the director. We use it instead of a trial class, because a dancer's level matters more here than the first lesson. Book it on the placement page.

How do we know which level is right?

We place dancers after the placement visit, not by age alone. The Levels page shows what each level works on, and the teachers explain their reasoning to the family at the end of the visit.

How many hours a week does the company track ask for?

It grows with the level. The Junior Company has about six hours of class a week, and the pre-professional level has about eighteen, plus Saturday rehearsals. The schedule lists every class.

How many events does a season hold, and what does travel mean?

A season holds four events and one convention. Events are within a day's drive, and we say the full list in the fall so families can plan. Travel and entry costs are described on the how tuition works page.

What are the extras beyond tuition?

Costumes, the recital, audition and event entries, the convention, travel and shoes. Each is named on the how tuition works page, with what it covers, and the enrollment packet lists them before you register.

What are auditions like?

An audition is a class in our studio, taught by our teachers. Dancers wear practice clothes and hair up. There is no video and no solo to prepare.

Can a recreational dancer join the company?

Yes. Dancers in the recreational program can book a placement visit whenever they and their teachers feel it is time, and the visit decides the level.

What if we miss a class?

Tell the front desk. A missed technique class can be made up in another class of the same style and level. Rehearsals are different, so the schedule note says how each is handled.

How does tuition work?

It depends on the level, the number of classes a week and the track. The how tuition works page explains what sets it, how billing runs and what the extras are. We share our figures at the placement visit.

Do we have to stay, and may we watch?

Parents may wait in the lobby. Watch weeks in October and March let families watch from the studio door; the family policies page has the rest.
