The company track

What the company asks of a family

We say it plainly, so a family can decide before an audition.

Four events and one convention

A season holds four events and one convention. The company goes to each as a group, and families are told the full list in the fall. This site prints no results, and we ask families to judge us by the class, the teachers and the work on the studio floor.

Hours that grow with the level

Hours grow with the level, from about six a week for the Junior Company to about eighteen for the pre-professional level. Costumes, entries, the convention and travel are extras, named on the how tuition works page.

How tuition works

Auditions

How auditions work

  1. 01

Step 1: Book a placement visit

A class with our teachers at the level that seems to fit, and a short talk with the director afterward.

  2. 02

Step 2: Audition in a class

An audition is a class in our studio. Dancers wear practice clothes, with hair up. There is no video and no solo to prepare.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Meet the teachers

The teachers talk with the dancer and the family about the level, the hours and what the season asks.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Hear in writing

Families receive the decision by letter, with the level and the schedule, before registration opens.

A season

What a season holds

Four stretches of the year, and what a company dancer's family can expect in each.

  • Empty studio with a dark floor, a bench along one wall and a bank of windows
    August to November

    Fall: placement and auditions

Placement visits and company auditions come first, then the new schedule settles in and rehearsal begins.

  • Empty rehearsal hall in daylight with chairs stacked at the side and a floor plan taped out
    December to April

    Winter: rehearsal and events

Choreography is set for the season's events and the convention. Families get the full list of events early.

  • A recital stage seen from the wings, with a gap in the curtain and the empty floor beyond
    May

    Spring: the recital

Every dancer, company and recreational, performs in May. Costumes arrive in the spring, ordered the fall before.

  • A jazz studio with a black floor, a stack of folded mats, a bench and tall windows
    June and July

    Summer: the intensive

Full-day weeks in June and July, open to dancers from other studios.
